Epic 874-mile cycle fundraising challenge helps GBWR to get to Tokyo

Concorde BGW raises thousands for GBWR after taking on an epic 874 mile cycling challenge.

Following UK Sport’s decision not to fund wheelchair rugby for the Tokyo cycle,  GBWR have been relying on sponsorship and donations from the public to allow them to compete in the 2020 Paralympics. GBWR is very close to the heart of one particular Interior Designer at Concorde whose brother, Jim Roberts is one of the most influential players in the GB squad. Concorde wanted to help the team get to Tokyo so we decided to set out to complete a cycling challenge of epic proportions to raise fund for this incredibly deserving cause.

Within our targeted five days, at an average of two hours of cycling for each participant, we had reached our target distance of 874 miles, which is the furthest possible distance in the British Isles! We managed to raise £3,517.00 which was £2500 more than our target! We are very proud of all of the employees across our  3  office's who took part, each employee raised a minimum of £25 and we had a huge amount of support from suppliers and clients alike. Donations of up to £500 were made from charitable foundations including The Bostock Foundation and the M R Cannon 1998 Charitable Trust.

Concorde are truly delighted to be able to support GBWR, the fundraising was fantastic fun and brought together a lot of people, most importantly we raised over £500 for an organisation that depends on donations to continue to do their work making a difference to people who often need extra support and care.

Wheelchair Rugby’s CEO, David Pond said, ‘We’re hugely grateful to Concorde BGW for this donation which will pay for one of our three-day training camps so it will make a real difference. Concorde BGW join an ever-growing family of wheelchair rugby supporters who have lifted our spirits and enabled us to remain focused on Tokyo and our self-belief that we can win a medal. Concorde’s pedalling feat is awesome– a massive thank you from us all’.
